A few tips while you wait for us to arrive:
- It probably sounds obvious but; locate the source water and prevent further ingress. Turn off water mains if it’s a burst pipe.
- Turn off the power to the affected area
- If possible, remove household or office items from the affected area. For items that are perhaps too heavy to move aluminium foil can be used to place beneath the contact points with the carpet, this will protect both the carpet and the furniture.
- If possible (remember safety, if they’re wet they will be heavy) remove floor rugs.
- Lift your curtains so that they are clear of the wet floor. This can be done by feeding the curtains through a coat hanger and hanging the coat hanger on the curtain rod.
- Do not use your ordinary vacuum to vacuum up water it’s not designed for this. You could risk electrocution, not to mention breaking your vacuum.
- If it’s not a large area towels can be used to absorb excess moisture from the affected area.
- If possible allow as much air flow through the affected area by opening windows and doors but please be mindful of security and the possibility of further problems if it rains.
